They actually look nothing like the things on tanks. I've never thought about it until now, but the names of the "wheels" on heavy machinery make no sense. If they moved like an actual caterpillar then they repeatedly crush everyone inside or tanks would need that flexible bendy stuff that they have on trams inbetween the carriages.
